Until this point, I had never shared my goals with you. Can you believe it?

I started my frugal living journey long ago because I wanted to live a more meaningful life and become debt-free.

For years, I struggled with overspending and being discontent with the things I already had. In the past, I would make these huge goals for myself in hopes of achieving my dreams, only to find myself no closer than when I had started.

I was tired of not reaching my goals and being disappointed when I was stuck in the same place a year later. Desperate to see even the slightest bit of progress, I ended up no closer to my goals than I was when I made them. It was because of this great failure that I learned how to finally achieve my goals.

Believe it or not, there is a science to how to achieve big goals.

Get Informed By Reading More Books

My personal growth goal for this year is to read more books on saving money, being a better wife, mommy, frugal tips and of course blogging. How to achieve big goals starts by being informed.

Why? The more I know the better I can attack and achieve my big goals. I went to college to learn about finances but since things are constantly changing, it’s always a good idea to have updated information.

Plus, I’m developing and stretching my brain which is always a good thing.

To keep on track, I’ve challenged myself to read one book each month to reach my goal of twelve by December.

I know one book may not sound like much, but I don’t exactly have a track record of finishing books in a timely manner. And since my track record of not finishing is not good enough, one month to read an entire book is a good challenge for me.

Here are a couple of the books on my finance list:

The more you know about finances, the more informed you are about how to make your big financial goals achievable. How to achieve big goals is by knowing more about the topic you are trying to master.

Ask your friends and family if they’ve read any good books or articles that might help you. There is so much information out there, you just need to find it.

Decluttering And Reorganizing

I finally took out the MASSIVE pile of Amazon boxes from Christmas. I wish I had taken a picture because there was an entire year’s supply of boxes in our dining room alone.

As I got rid of all the boxes and began sorting the contents of the room, I took out everything that didn’t belong in our dining room and living room. I was able to send three trash bags full of stuff to Goodwill!

I hope to finish selling the remaining items in the house over the next few months so we can eliminate that clutter and reorganize our home. Here are FOUR Easy Ways to Make Money Selling Your Excess Stuff Online!

How does decluttering and reorganizing help your finances, you ask? Simple. You know what you have and where to find it. When things get disorganized in your home, it’s easy for other things to become the same way, and that includes your finances!

Don’t know where that tool is that you need to fix the cabinet drawer? You end up heading to the hardware store to get another one. That becomes money wasted just because you couldn’t find one item.

Where did you store that wrapping paper and bows? Again, it becomes more wasted money because you couldn’t find something you already owned.

Don’t let a cluttered situation take over because it can wreak havoc on your home and your finances.

But even more than that, your finances can become a jumbled mess of late payments and missing bills. Why? Because of simple disorganization.

Get organized this year with your money with my simple Cash Flow Formula. A simple plan to get your finances organized once and for all! How to achieve big goals is by first getting your resources and your cash flow in order.

Stay Motivated

James and I really want to take the family on a cruise! After a long discussion, we’ve decided a cruise would really be fun together before all the kids grow up and scatter off to college and get married. We set big goals for our family and this is one that we are all excited about!

To reach our goal, we will need to save $100 a month. My goal for each month is to earn/save $100 to put toward our cruise fund.

How to achieve big goals is again starting with a smaller goal that will help you reach the bigger goal. While the final cruise price tag is a lot of money, starting with a small goal each month doesn’t overwhelm me. I can make the small goal with no problem and know that I will eventually get to the larger goal in time.

But how do we stay motivated? By simply keeping our dream and goal in front of our minds. We keep a picture of a cruise ship on our fridge with a potential sail date on the picture.
