When you’re in the middle of a no spend challenge, it can start to feel like the days are endless. Time, when you used to spend out shopping, eating out, or being out on the town, is replaced with days in the house and evenings wondering what to do with your free time.
If you’ve got some time to kill, but no money to spend, picking up a frugal hobby that doesn’t cost you any money to start is a great way to pass the time! There are a ton of frugal hobbies out there, and I’m willing to bet that one of these hobbies will work out great for you!
Here are a few hobbies you can start for free for the no spend challenge.
This one is hands down the cheapest hobby out there and has so many benefits for you and your family! Reading not only helps us learn new things but explore worlds we could never have imagined.
If you are more of a paperback book kind of a person, look through your home and see if there are any books you’ve forgotten about. I guarantee we all have a stack of books we’ve meant to read somewhere. If you run out, just head to your local library and check out a few books for free. If reading on a Kindle or digital device is more your thing, see if your library has access to any ebooks. You can also find a ton of free audiobooks and ebooks on Amazon through Prime reading, or by searching the kindle ebook section.
Here are ten ways to get FREE & Discounted Books!
If you are looking for a way to get out of the house without spending any money, then I highly suggest looking into geocaching. Some of them might require you to drive somewhere, but depending on where you live, you may be able to find some hidden treasures within walking distance!
To get started, search geocaching on google or in your app store and find a list of places to visit. You can also start on this site to get more information and find places in your area. You can even get the whole family involved and do this together.
Learn A New Skill
Have you always wanted to try learning a new language, cook a new type of cuisine, or learn to sew? There are tons of reference books available at your local library, a wealth of knowledge on the internet, and thousands of YouTube videos out there on nearly any topic you might be interested in.
This can be a great way to gain some knowledge on something you might be interested in before you invest any money.
Do Some Cooking Or Baking
Food is usually the downfall when it comes to a no spend challenge. I mean we all need to eat right? However, if you have some free time, consider doing some meal prep or baking a treat with your kids. This is a great way to do something productive, and you get to enjoy the fruits of your labor later!
Start Working Out
If you are looking to get active or lose some weight, there are a ton of ways you can workout at home for free! You can find workout videos on YouTube, go for a walk or run around your neighborhood, or find things around your house that you can lift in place of weights.
Don’t be afraid to get creative, and see if you can get your husband involved too!
This is by far one of my favorite hobbies, and probably the most rewarding. There are so many ways to get free coupons without a Sunday paper and the best part? You’ll be saving money!
Couponing has been a blessing to our household and can be the same to yours! Check out the coupon archives and get started!
Just because you are in the middle of a no spend challenge doesn’t mean you can’t have any fun! You don’t need any money to find a hobby that you can do around your home, or outside if you’d like to get out, and still stick to your goals.
