I’ve always loved a personalized jewelry box ever since I was little. I was given one when I was little and I had it for the longest time.

But what makes a personalized jewelry box so special? The thought that it was handmade and painted just for you? Or the time that someone took just to make something for you? I don’t know, but they are quite a great gift.

That’s why I think you are going to love this DIY personalized jewelry box. Not only can you make it into a great DIY custom jewelry box but it can be so much more!

These simple DIY jewelry boxes can be used for other purposes like for holding love notes, spare change boxes, bathroom organizers, a place to hide your secret candy stash <ahem>. Or even a pretty place to keep matches or essential oils near candles or diffusers!

Grab a larger box to make as a keepsake box.

And wouldn’t it be crazy if you could make them in less than 30 minutes plus drying time? You can!

Plus a great thing about these boxes is that you can take a plain wooden box and turn it into a unique wooden jewelry box for that someone special on your gift list. Everyone loves handmade things!

I know there are several ladies on my list that would love a personalized jewelry box. And since these are so cheap, I can make several to give. How cute would these be on a desk to hold office supplies?!

This post is part of our 30 Days of Homemade Gifts Series. 30 gifts that are easy (and cheap) to make, but also something you’ll be proud to give.

Each Homemade Gift has to meet 5 stipulations in order to maximize your money and make it easy for a busy mom to do:

  1. Easy to obtain supplies –  Supplies are things you might already have on hand or are easy to find at Walmart or a craft store so you can get them in the same day you want to make it.
  2. Easy to make –  Supplies are easy to work with or use so that anyone could do it… not caustic… so you could do the craft with your kids.
  3. Quick to make –  It can be made in 30 minutes or less so it’s possible to make this gift in the middle of the night with products you most likely already have on hand. (Note: The 30 minute guide is your “hands on” time, dry time is excluded.)
  4. Cheap to make – You should be able to make the project without spending more than $10.
  5. Substantial – Each gift is “big” enough that you’ll feel confident giving it alone and not having to add a gift card to it.
    BONUSES:
    Multiple uses –
Multiple gifts can be made out of the same supplies giving you options to use up all the supplies you buy.
Saving Money Double Bonus: Try to think about what you already have on hand to upcycled and save more money.

So let’s get making this DIY personalized jewelry box!

Step 1: Paint Your Box

Truly, before you can paint, you need to lightly sand your box and wipe it off. That’ll give it a smooth surface before you paint.

Since the personalized jewelry box is a blank canvas, you want to start by painting (or staining) it to your liking.

I used Oyster color paint.

Let your unique wooden jewelry box dry.

Step 2: Seal Your Box

To help the finish last for a long time on your DIY personalized jewelry box you’ll want to add a sealer. It also gives it a glossy, finished look.

Once you have sealed your DIY custom jewelry box, let it dry.

Step 3: Measure & Add Handle

Measure the top of the box to figure out where you want to put the knob on your DIY custom jewelry box.

Since you made sure to purchase a knob/handle that had a flat back on it, this part will be simple.

Add E-6000 to the back and place it in the right spot.

Once again, let it dry.
