Maybe it’s just me, but the one room in our house I can’t stand to clean is the bathroom. There is something so gross about cleaning a bathroom that can’t be compared to any other room in our home. Out of all the other rooms, it is one of the harder rooms to tackle. Despite my best efforts, the bathroom is not exempt from spring cleaning. I’m going to show you how to clean your bathroom in every nook and cranny, from top to bottom until it sparkles like new again! Here is my spring cleaning guide for the bathroom.

Gather Your Supplies

Before I start any spring cleaning project, I like to make sure I have everything I need to tackle each room. These supplies might vary based on your family’s needs, but here is what I am using to clean my bathroom:

  • Microfiber cloths (you can also use paper towels if you prefer)
  • Glass and mirror cleaner
  • Tub and shower cleaner
  • Toilet bowl cleaner
  • All-purpose cleaner
  • Floor cleaner/grout cleaner

You can use store-bought products for these tasks if you’d like, or make your cleaners to tackle these dirty jobs. There are coupons available in early spring for a variety of cleaning products, which can help you get rock bottom prices on all your favorite cleaners. If you prefer to make your own or create nontoxic variations, here are some of my favorite homemade cleaners that would work well in the bathroom:

Vents And Fans

When cleaning your bathroom, it’s essential to work top to bottom to avoid having to clean the same area twice. This is why we are starting with the vents and fans. To clean your vents and fans in the bathroom, start by removing the vent cover and washing them in soapy water. Use the abrasive part of the sponge to scrub them. Allow them to dry. While you are waiting for the cover to dry, give the fan a quick dust and then return the vents.

Shower And Tub

Start by removing the shower curtain from the shower and the liner. If they are still in decent condition, run them through the wash to clean them. If they are looking a little grungy, you might want to consider a deep clean with bleach or a bleach alternative. If your shower curtain is old, consider getting a new one.

Next, take everything else out of the shower, so you don’t have anything in the way of your cleaning. Start with the taps, drains, get scrubbing. Once these areas are clean, spray the shower and tub with your shower cleaner of choice, and allow a few minutes for the cleaner to do its job. After a few minutes, wipe clean.

Mirrors And Windows

Using your glass cleaner of choice, spray down all the windows and mirrors and give them a good wipe down. To avoid streaking and putting the dirt back on the windows, move in an S pattern.

Countertops

Using your all-purpose cleaner, spray down your countertops and wipe them down. If you have specialty countertops, use the correct cleaner instead. Take this time to also clear clutter off of the countertops.

This is a great time to also go through and clean and cabinets, drawers and that linen closet. Getting these areas in shape will help keep the bathroom clean and organized.

Toilet

Using your toilet bowl cleaner line the inside of the toilet bowl. It usually takes between five to seven minutes to set, so use this time to clean the rest of the toilet with your all-purpose cleaner. Don’t forget behind and the base of the toilet as well. Once you’ve cleaned the rest, go ahead and clean the toilet bowl.

Floors

Lastly, it’s time to address the floors. Before you use anything else, give it a quick vacuum or sweep to get up any loose particles. Next, use your grout and tile cleaner or floor cleaner of choice and give those floors a good scrub. While you’re down there, use your all-purpose cleaner to clean the baseboards.

Cleaning the bathroom can be one of the dirtiest jobs in your home. After all, this is where we go to wash off dirt and use the bathroom. Cleaning your bathroom might seem like a chore, but when you have a bathroom this clean, trust me it will be worth it!
