Homemade French Onion Dip

You’ve probably made French Onion Dip before using onion soup mix, but if you try this recipe using freshly chopped and sauteed onions, we bet you’ll love it more!

Chances are good that you have most, if not all, of these ingredients already in your kitchen.

Want to chop without the tears? Using a sharp knife is key when chopping up your onions. After that the most effective way to cut an onion without shedding tears (other than to buy them pre-chopped) is to wear swim goggles. You can also try chilling the onion before cutting, lighting a candle nearby, sticking a piece of bread in your mouth, hold water in your mouth, or running a fan that will blow the onion fumes away from your face.

Keep stirring the onions as you caramelize them to get them uniformly golden brown.

You may want to double your recipe for this one…it’s gonna go fast. Serve it up with crackers, veggies and chips.
And add a bowl of mints nearby for all that onion breath!

 

French Onion Dip Recipe

Ingredients
  • 2 tbsp Olive Oil
  • 2 large Onions, diced
  • 1 tbsp minced Garlic
  • 2 tsp Worcestershire Sauce
  • 16 oz Sour Cream
  • 1/2 tsp Garlic Powder
  • 1/4 tsp Black Pepper
  • 1/4 tsp Kosher or Sea Salt
Instructions
  1. Add olive oil to pan over medium heat.
  2. Add onions, garlic and Worcestershire and saute until caramelized (15-20 minutes).
  3. Remove from heat and allow to cool.
  4. Combine the remaining ingredients, and add the cooled onion mixture.
  5. Refrigerate before serving.
