Fox 6-29-14Did you catch our Savings Segment this morning on Fox 13?  We are honored to be a featured on Good Day Tampa Bay each Sunday to share our knowledge about coupons and how to get the most for your money!  This week’s topic was all about how to save money on meat…one of the most expensive things we buy at the grocery store!

Here is a little more information for you:Fox 13 Logo

  1. Stock up when meat is on sale ~ This is no different than any other product.  Meat goes on sale all the time.  When it hits it’s lowest price, go ahead and stock up!  Buy as much as your weekly budget will allow and put it in your freezer.  Most meats will keep in the freezer for 6 months.
  2. Buy Holiday Meats ~ Ham at Easter, Hot Dogs for 4th of July, Turkey at Thanksgiving.  Throughout the year meats go on sale around holidays.  Buy extra and take advantage of the low prices.  Who says you can’t bake a turkey in July?  You can also get multiple meals out of large pieces of meat like turkey and ham.
  3. Supplement It ~ Making meatloaf or burgers? Add in beans, rice or oatmeal to bulk them up and make the meat go further.  Your family won’t taste the difference, and you’ll be packing in extra nutrients, too. Another example of this is to have your deli meat sliced thin, then add lettuce, tomato onions, etc. to bulk up your sandwich.  Again, you’ll be saving money and eating even healthier too!
  4. Use Meat as an Accent ~ Instead of meat being the star of the meal, make a pasta dish or salad and add the meat as a topping.
  5. Try Canned Meat ~ You might not like it straight out of the can, but canned meat is great in casseroles and other recipes.  Everyone knows about tuna, but there is also chicken breast, clams and salmon.  Plus, having canned meat on hand when you forget to thaw something out for dinner can save you the extra expense of ordering out.
  6. The Bigger the Better ~ Buying meat in a big uncut hunk is cheaper per pound than buying it individually sliced up. Cook the big roast in the crock pot, then shred and divide into several meals. The price per meal goes waaaay down because you purchased it in bulk and saved!

Basically, meat is one of the most expensive things we buy and there are rarely coupons, but you CAN save money on meat and never pay full price again!
