Fox 13 LogoDid you catch our Savings Segment this morning on Fox 13?  We are honored to be a featured on Good Day Tampa Bay each Sunday to share our knowledge about coupons and how to get the most for your money!  This week’s topic was all about what to buy/what not to buy in June, and how to be prepared for hurricane season! Click the Photo to watch the live segment!

Fox 6-1-14Here is a little more information for you:

  1. June is National Dairy Month ~ Look for sales and extra coupons available on items like milk, cheese, yogurt, butter, cottage cheese, sour cream and ice cream (Yay!). Usually this is the month when we see extra Store Coupons pop up so don’t forget to “stack” your coupons to get the best deal.  “Stacking” is when you save the most because you can use a Store Coupon AND a Manufacturer Coupon per item.
  2. Time for Tools ~ Tools make great gifts!  June brings Father’s Day Sales on all kinds of power and manual tools, but be sure to shop early in the month. The sales will end when Father’s Day is gone.  Some Moms out there might like tools, too!  I have my own toolbox full of things I need to hang pictures and do small repairs around the house. I love not having to borrow my husband’s tools. (I can’t find anything in the garage anyway!)
  3. Find Treasures at the Thrift Store ~ Spring Cleaning donations continue this month.  Shopping at Thrift Stores you will find plenty of new inventory with inexpensive treasures waiting to be discovered!
  4. Tax Free Hurricane Supplies ~
  • Reusable Ice (less than $10)
  • Flashlights or Lanterns (less than $20)
  • Candles (less than $20) (go to Bed, Bath & Beyond and get Yankee Candles, may as well have your house smell nice while your out of power)
  • Fuel Tanks or Containers (less than $25)
  • First Aid Kit (less than $30)
  • Batteries (less than $30)
  • Cooler (less than $30)
  • Weather radio with battery power option (less than $50)
  • Tarps or other waterproofing material (less than $50)
  • Tie Down (Bungee Cords, or Rachets) (less than $50)
  • and a Generator (costs less than $750)
  • View the entire list at the FL Dept of Revenue Website

The Sales Tax amount you will save (excluding the generator) is around $20. Adding coupons in to those items and you will save even more! Use our Coupon Database to find coupons for items you are looking for! Read more information about Saving money on Hurricane Preparedness Supplies.

What NOT to buy this month:

  1. Sandals & Patio Furniture ~ I know summer is the best time for wearing sandals, but if you want to get the most for your money, then wait to get them until Labor Day! Until then, you will see great sales on flip-flops at places like Old Navy and JCPenney to hold you over! And while this may be the peak season to use them, it is NOT peak season to buy them!  You will see prices on patio furniture drop after the 4th of July and even more in August and September.
  2. Grills ~ Friendly reminder that July and August should bring clearance prices so we recommend waiting just a few more weeks for that new grill.

Basically, sooner or later just about everything goes on sale. Knowing when items are at their lowest prices and buying them before you need them is a shopping technique that can save you hundreds of dollars every year on all kinds of items from groceries to gifts…to hurricane supplies and tools!

~Happy June Shopping!
