Fox 13 LogoDid you catch our Savings Segment this morning on Fox?  We are honored to be a featured on Good Day Tampa Bay each Sunday to share our knowledge about coupons and how to get the most for your money!  This week’s topic was all about how you can be a blessing to others by donating from your stockpile!

Fox 3-23-14Here is a little more information for you:

  1. Today is “Feed The Bay” SundayToday culminates a month long effort of churches who have one mission: Stocking Food Pantry Shelves. Today in church services all across the Tampa Bay Area, donation item “shopping lists” are handed out with the intent to go shopping, and then Semi Tractor-Trailers are waiting to be filled in designated Publix parking lots all over the area! Learn more here.
  2. Not Just During March – Place a donation bin in your garage or wherever you keep most of your stockpile. Use this as a catchall for items you intend to donate. If you happen to overbuy and discover items that will expire before you will use them up, add them to your box! Then, add to your calendar a monthly day to deliver your donations to a food bank, church, family or neighbor in need. To find a food bank near you, check out Feeding America. Make sure to check the food bank hours and find out what their greatest needs are.
  3. How Freebies Happen – This may sound “basic”, but I want to be sure you know why freebie items happen so often for couponers! They occur because the price of an item goes low enough that the coupon is the SAME amount…therefore making the item cost nothing. You ultimately pay with a coupon instead of your cash.
  4. Trash Becomes Treasure – Did you know that the Humane Society would love to have your old newspapers? They need them to help the pets! And you might not even have a pet…so send them your coupons. How about baby coupons? Are your kids all grown up? Send your local pregnancy center the diaper and baby food coupons! I know that the SPCA sets up a “new pet owner” care package and includes coupons for litter and food inside with the ones that we send in!
  5. Extend the Life of Expired Coupons – Send them to the Military! Military families stationed overseas can use manufacturer coupons up to 6 month after they expire. The easiest way to send them is to take only the P&G insert and just cut and send. Coupons must be CUT & organized in Food vs Non-Food categories (the P&G insert is the easiest because it is already Non-Food). We include the information for sending coupns away to the military each time we post to Clean Out Your Coupon Box 😉

Best of all, don’t forget the most commonly needed resource – volunteering your time to help those in need! Especially if you don’t have a padded stockpile built up just yet!

~Happy Donating!
