2020 FREE Summer Reading Programs!

Keeping kids’ bodies and minds active on summer break are equally important.

That’s where summer reading programs come in and for FREE is even better!

The three-month summer vacation can make a mind turn to mush.

It’s surprising to learn that kids can lose up to 22% of skills when they do not read during the summer!  

That is a staggering, unacceptable percentage when we can do something about it!

Here are few FREE programs to help keep your kids motivated to read!

FREE Book from Barnes & Noble

The summer reading programs for kids in First through Sixth Grades can read any eight books and record them in the Barnes & Noble FREE Book Reading Journal. Then just bring the completed log to your Barnes & Noble store location for a FREE book (dates coming soon)!

The FREE Books are listed on the reading journal/log by grade.

Books-A-Million

For the summer reading programs of 2020, (details coming soon). Simply fill out the log as you read your books and then bring it to your local Books-A-Million to get your free gift.

In 2019, students receivde a FREE drawstring backpack when they read any four of the qualified books from the Summer Reading Adventure section

Year Round & Summer Reading Programs:
Students in grades Kindergarten through 12 can earn up to $10 ($2 per book) by simply reading! You can actually participate in this reading program all year long and earn up to $30 per year! For reading?!!

You can submit the request form at any Cap Com branch location or by simply emailing the form to them as well. Talk about an easy $30!

FREE Tampa Bay Rays Baseball Tickets

Earn a FREE Ticket to a Tampa Bay Rays Baseball Game (2020 details coming soon)! The Rays have once again partnered with the libraries in Citrus, Charlotte, Hernando, Hillsborough, Indian Rocks Beach, Manatee, Pasco, Pinellas, Polk and Sarasota counties to encourage elementary school students in grades three through five to read and earn prizes as they do. As you “read your way around the bases” bring in your Game Card (handed out at your local library) and receive neat prizes from the Tampa Bay Rays.

Simply make it all the way to home plate by reading 24 hours total this summer and you can receive a (2) FREE tickets to a Rays game! These are great summer reading programs!

Your Local Library

Don’t forget to visit your local library to see if they are offering any summer reading programs. Visit often and let your kids borrow new books to have on hand for those rainy summer afternoons (or long car rides).

Year Round Program:
Download a FREE Reading Calendar from Chuck E Cheese’s, then read every day for 2 weeks and receive Ten FREE game tokens!

Meatheads Voracious Readers

Year Round Program:
Kids can earn a a FREE lil’ meathead burger when they fill out the Meatheads Voracious Meatheads Reading Rewards log by reading five books. They are eligible for one free burger per month!

Pizza Hut Book-It

Pizza Hut loves kids and they are on a mission to keep them reading. The BOOK IT! Summer Reading Challenge has already started! Just visit their website to see which books they are suggesting your kiddos to read, download the free activity guides for each specific book, and let the fun begin!

Pottery Barn Kids

Year Round Program:
Check your local Pottery Barn Kids times as they host a free story time with sing-alongs. After five visits, your child will receive a special surprise.

 Scholastic

This is an excellent FREE reading resource website. When students log reading time they can unlock virtual rewards. Sign up your kids to log the hours they read over the summer from Saturday, May 4th until Friday, September 4th, 2020. There are several suggested reading book lists too.

Showcase Cinemas Bookworm Wednesdays

If you live near a Showcase Cinemas (theaters in MA, NJ, NY & RI) then you can attend a FREE Movie @ 10:00 am every on Wednesday from by simply bringing in a Book Report as your admittance! Don’t forget there are FREE movies every week for summer!

FREE Audio Books for Teens Ages 13+

Audio Book Sync is giving teens ages 13+ two FREE audio books downloads every week. Hold on… read that again… a FREE AUDIOBOOK EVERY SINGLE WEEK during the summer! (New titles are released every Thursday.)

I personally love listening to audiobooks, they are so captivating! My kids love this program because it still “counts” as reading, even though they are actually listening.

TD Bank

TD Bank offers a really fun way to earn money this summer by simply reading! Each child in Kindergarten to 5th grade can earn $10 each for reading 10 books. Just fill in the book log and then bring it to your local branch and they will deposit $10 to your account! That’s fun AND rewarding.

Half Price Books Summer Reading Program

The Half Price Books summer reading program rewards your kiddos who read for at least 300 minutes during the months of June and July Bookwom Bucks (gift cards)! This summer reading program is available to kids preschool through high school. Download and print this PDF book log, one for June and another for July so that each day your child reads they can write the number of minutes they’ve read on that day on the printable calendar.

The goal is to read at least 15 minutes each day of the week. Then at the end of each week, your kids can add up their week’s total minutes. Total minutes for the month can be added up at the bottom of the calendar. After your child has read at least 300 minutes, fill out their name, age, and total minutes, as well as your name, email, and location information.

Cut out the completed part of the form and bring it to your local Half Price Books store to get your reward! There are also a bunch of fun FREE printables! So if you do not have a store near you, you can still take advantage of the awesome FREE printables!
