If you are planning a trip to Disney, you are probably going to be spending a lot of time in the parks. However, you may want to take a look at things to do near Disney World.
While Disney is a magical place, there are so many other attractions and places to visit that are near Disney to give you fun memories to make with your family!
If you need a little break from Disney or just want to try something new, here are a few other fun family things to do near Disney World when you visit.
Things To Do Near Disney World
While Disney is indeed in the title, Disney Springs is not inside any of the theme parks. It’s one of those things to do near Disney World.
There are so many excellent stores to see if you’re going to do some window shopping. This article has the six FREEbies my family does when we go to Disney Springs.
You can also enjoy live music and entertainment at the Marketplace Stage and all throughout Disney Springs.
Freebie Tip: Ride the boats across the lake to take in the breeze and scenery. Get off at several of the resorts and explore them too!
NOTE: I think Disney “Springs” sounds like they would have a swimming area, but it is not. The only “springs” is a lake looking pool that you walk over on a bridge (you can see it behind my family in the photo above). I just don’t want you to show up in bathing suits expecting to float down a river 😉
Experience a world straight out of the movies and your favorite TV shows as you experience the magic of Universal Studios.
I’m talking about seeing the magic of Harry Potter, battle with Transformers, and create some mayhem with the minions all in one theme park!
Universal Studios is made up of three separate theme parks: Universal Studios Florida, Universal’s Islands of Adventure, and Universal’s Volcano Bay (their water park).
They are all within walking distance from each other, but there is so much to do inside each one that you definitely don’t’ want to plan to visit all three in the same day.
The Kennedy Space Center is about an hour from Orlando, and is a great way to spend the afternoon!
Your admission to the Space Center includes a shuttle launch experience, space exhibits, and so much more! You can see some of the real space shuttles and learn all about space exploration.
The Kennedy Space Center still launches rockets into space, so if you want to get the chance to see a real launch, check out their schedule of events for more details.
Only an hour away from the Disney Parks is another excellent theme park Legoland.
This resort includes more than 50 rides, shows, and other attractions, a water park, and a world-famous botanical garden in this 150-acre theme park!
While the rides at Legoland are geared for younger aged children (I’d say around 13 and under) if you have a Lego enthusiast, any age will love it.
Legoland also offers a shuttle from I-Drive 360 and only costs $5 round trip with a Legoland reservation.
The top five popular beaches within 75 minutes of Orlando that are worth the drive include:
• Cocoa Beach (1 hour and 5 minutes)
• Daytona Beach (1 hour and 7 minutes)
• New Smyrna Beach (1 hour and 8 minutes)
• Canaveral National Seashore (1 hour and 9 minutes)
• Flagler Beach (1 hour and 10 minutes)
Whether you’re looking to do some body surfing, or just enjoy the sand between your toes, any of these beaches are the perfect way to spend an afternoon away from the parks. As you can see, many of these beaches are close to one another, so you could even visit all of them if you wanted!
Don’t forget to bring your kite along! That’s always fun at the beach!
If you love ocean animals, you must stop by SeaWorld while you’re in Orlando! This theme park is a truly one of a kind experience and it’s one of those things to do near Disney World.
The SeaWorld park is themed around aquatic animals who call the ocean home.
Guests can enjoy shows, a water park, and even swim with some of the animals.
You can’t go wrong with the Crayola Experience!
Watch as Crayola comes to life in this 70,000 square foot space of attractions and interactive play.
There are 26 hands-on attractions for families, and you can even create your very own crayon!
This is a perfect rainy day activity and one you won’t regret doing as it’s one of those things to do near Disney World!
Get up close to the animals at the Safari Wilderness Ranch.
The Safari Wilderness Ranch is indeed a unique experience!
Hidden away from civilization, your family can see an open vista of animals surrounded by bay trees and cypress domes!
This ranch is not a zoo or even a theme park, and you won’t find crowds or lines here. Some guides will allow you to see the 260+ acres of wilderness in a custom safari vehicle!
Disney indeed is the happiest place on earth, and we’ve been annual pass holders for years! However, if you’re looking to try something new and fun (that cost less than you’d spend on a ticket at Disney), consider some of these other things to do near Disney World a try. You won’t be disappointed!
