Four years ago Amazon decided to have an “Amazon Prime Day” and it is essentially a 36 hour period of REALLY GOOD DEALS…

Bed sheets were crazy cheap.

TV’s were priced below Black Friday.

DVD’s and Wii Games were also priced so low it felt like you were stealing.

My family stocked up on gifts for Birthdays and Christmas.

Instead of telling you specific deals that exist on Prime Day, I’m going to give you an overall strategy to help you navigate the “Prime Day Waters” so you can score a fantastic Deal for your family… regardless of what you purchase!

I spoke about this topic on my Savings Segment on Fox. Watch the replay here:

First, You Need Prime (Don’t Worry, You Can Try It For FREE)

Usually I suggest this tip closer to Black Friday to use during mid-November to Mid-December. But if you aren’t already a Prime member, then you can try Prime for FREE for 30 days and have access to all the Prime Day deals first hand with your own account.

Now set an alarm on your phone RIGHT NOW to cancel Prime in 2 weeks (yes, you have 30 days, but why wait until the last minute?).

If you are a College Student (or have one living in your house), then you can get a 6-Month trial of Amazon Prime for FREE! Plus, after the 6-month trial period is over, then you’ll get Prime for half off the annual price.

1. How To Find The Best Deals (And Get A FREE $10)

During Prime Day, which “officially” begins at 3pm EST this Monday July 16th, Amazon will be offering thousands of deals from TV’s to Baby Wipes. Some will be all-day deals, while others will only be available for a few hours. Those time-sensitive sales, called “Lightning Deals,” go live every few minutes throughout the day.

One way to make things easier? Download the Amazon app (Bonus: You get $10 FREE when you sign in) on your phone and look through upcoming deals for the categories you’re interested in. You can also add the Amazon Assistant browser extension (Bonus: You get $5 Off Your $25 Order) to the browser on your computer and you’ll be notified when the sale goes live on there too.

If you add a deal to your ‘watching’ list, you’ll get a notice through the Amazon app when that deal is about to go live.

Once you see the deal go live, it’s a good idea to hit “add to cart” immediately. You’ll have a few minutes to either complete your purchase or remove the item from your cart. Some items sell out in seconds which means you’ll need to put yourself on the “waitlist” in case someone who claimed the deal before you decided to pass on it after a little thought.

Get the Amazon Assistant Browser Extension here (Bonus: $5 Off your $25 order).

2. Get $10 FREE By Shopping At Whole Foods (Plus More)

Now that Amazon owns Whole Foods, they are including them in Prime Day this year! Woohoo!

The most important thing you need to do TODAY is shop at Whole Foods and make a single purchase of at least $10 at any Whole Foods Market store. Make sure to scan the Prime code or use your linked mobile number at checkout in-store between through 11:59 p.m. PST 7/17/18.

A $10 Credit will appear in your Amazon account to be used towards any purchase on Prime Day.

NOTE: You must make $10 purchase between 12:00 a.m. PST 7/16/2018 and 11:59 p.m. PST 7/18/2018. Otherwise you will lose your $10.

In addition to the $10 credit, Amazon is also offering an additional 10% off sale items at Whole Foods stores ON Prime Day (from 3 pm EST 7/16/18 to 11:59 pm EST 7/1718).

Finally, for anyone using the Amazon Prime Rewards Visa card you’ll get double the rewards on Whole Foods purchases (up to $400).

3. Prime Day Deals To Watch For

Tons of things go on sale during Prime Day, it’s hard to keep up without sitting at your computer the entire day. According to Amazon, these are the categories and products with the best deals this year:

  • Toys: There should be big discounts on major toy brands such as LEGO, Fingerlings, and Crayola. Amazon has also said there will be “exciting launches exclusive to Prime members”.
  • Fire TV Cube: The latest Fire TV device was released less than a month ago. You could pre-order it for $89 so I’m guessing it will be priced around $99, which is $20 off.
  • Smart Home: This year you’ll be able to save up to 40% off items in this category.
  • Video Games: Amazon has hinted that there will be deals on Xbox, Oculus, and Nintendo products. If you are hoping for a deal on Nintendo items then make sure you load them into your “watching” list so you’ll be notified of a sale.
  • Fitbits: Last year the Fitbit Blaze had the best price ever during 2017 Prime Day. This product is still super popular, so I’ll bet it’ll be cheap again this year. If you have your eye on a fitness tracker then load them into your “watching” list and watch for a deal alert.

Amazon also said the lowest prices would be found on their own product brands. That includes 25% off furniture and décor from Rivet and Stone & Beam, up to 20% off AmazonBasics and 30% off household and health products from Presto!, Mama Bear and Solimo.

Deals will start rolling out from this page.

4. Is it Truly A Deal?

Have you ever used the website, CamelCamelCamel.com?

It is a price watcher website that you can use to verify if prices are ACTUALLY really good (it shows previous prices).

It even has a browser extension that you can add to Chrome or Firefox and with the click of a button you can see if the item you are looking at is truly a good deal.

I’ll be watching (and comparing prices) inside the Prime Pantry area because they have promoted that some “Essential Items” will be up to 35% Off, so I’ll be watching for Paper Towels and Toilet Paper deals!

5. More FREE Amazon Money

Amazon is offering multiple coupons for Prime Day to help you try out the other services they have available with some FREE Money.

In order to get your FREE $10, you must place an order for $10.01 and your 1st Order must be placed by 11:59 pm (PST) July 17, 2018 and 2nd Order must be placed by 11:59 pm (PST) July 31, 2018. The $10 credit cannot be applied to delivery charges (usually $5)

Using coupon code “PANTRY” will get you $10 Off a $40 Order. Your order must be placed by 11:50 pm (PST) July 17, 2018.

Note: If you do not have both a Prime membership and Prime Pantry membership then shipping will cost a flat $7.99 per order.

Amazon Prime members get 2% reward everytime they reload an Amazon Gift Card, for Prime day, they will also get a FREE $10 Credit as a bonus!

This is something Amazon regularly offers its Prime members, but it’s worth mentioning here so that you are prepared. When you choose to forego your 2-Day shipping option and opt to receive your items later, they will give you a $5 credit towards another service. Sometimes its $5 Off

YOUR TURN: Tell me in the comments if you plan on participating in Prime Day? What are you keeping your eyes on?
