Today’s question…

Question:

Many of the coupons contained in the 09-26-10 Proctor & Gamble Sunday insert except for the Kandoo coupon has new fine print wording. These coupons state “Limit 4 like coupons per shopping trip.”  What does this new fine print mean?

Answer:

“Limit 4 like coupons per shopping trip”
Lots of coupons have had this wording on them all year, but I just want to take a moment to point out and explain exactly what it means…
A “like coupon” is the exact same coupon. So if you have (4) coupons from the 09-26-10 P&G insert with this wording that is for let’s say “$1.00 off one (1) Crest Toothpaste” and you also have (4) coupons from the same insert that are for “$0.75 off one (1) Crest Toothpaste” (likely from a different region) you may use all eight (8) coupons in one shopping trip because you have two (2) sets of “Like Coupons”. A “Like Coupon” is the EXACT same coupon from the same source, same value, same product, same expiration date, etc.

A “Shopping Trip” is defined as when you enter the store you are initiating a new “shopping trip”. So if you wish to use more than 4 Like Coupons you will need to purchase 4 items with your 4 like coupons, exit the store, reenter the store and use more 4 like coupons.

Limits have been placed on coupons by the manufacturer’s to deter people from buying mass quantities of products.  They are not trying to keep you from building a 3 month stockpile!  However, it has become the trend to build a 12 month or more stockpile.  That is leaving store inventory wiped out and lots of angry customers with no products to buy.

True Couponing has always taught ethical couponing.  We have always taught the concept of “leaving some behind” and only buying what your family will use until the product goes on sale again in 12 weeks or less.  Do not let this “new wording” bother you!  If you are a True Couponer, you have likely been shopping like this already.  There are few items you really need to buy more than 4 of at a time, especially Health & Beauty items that are usually represented in the P&G coupons.  On the occasion you do need to buy more than 4 items, we suggest doing it ethically and plan more than one shopping trip that week.  If it really is that good of a deal, it will be worth another trip.  You could even have your hubby stop by the store on his way home. 🙂
