Fox 13 LogoDid you catch our Savings Segment this morning on Fox?  We are honored to be a featured on Good Day Tampa Bay each Sunday to share our knowledge about coupons and how to get the most for your money!  This week’s topic was all about what you should actually be paying for all of the necessary school supplies. How do you know when the sale is really a good price, or just a marketing ploy?

Here is a little more information for you:

  1. Binders, Notebooks & Folders – Binders are very expensive but they are worth it because they keep your papers so nicely protected. But what costs nearly $4 you can pay just $0.50 – $1 for during this Back To School time. Spiral Notebooks and Folders (with or without prongs) are just a dime! Fancy Composition notebooks  – only a quarter!
  2. Glue and Scissors – White school glue and 2-pk of glue sticks are a quarter ($0.25) or less. But scissors are a good deal at $1 or less EACH, adult or kids.
  3. Crayons, Markers & Colored Pencils – These items are basically relating to art, drawing and coloring. Colored pencils just $1, markers less than a $1 (unless they are washable, then $1.50) and a 24 ct box of crayons is only $0.25 cents. These make great stocking stuffers at Christmas time, too…just when they have lost or broken most of the colors you can replenish!
  4. All Pens & Pencils – Less than $0.50 cents, unless they are mechanical pencils..then $1 for a box of 10. Now you won’t need to be frustrated when someone fails to give you back your pen…they can keep it!
  5. FREEbies – There are quite a few items that are regularly FREE (sometimes they require a $5 minimum purchase), they include: crayons, folders, spiral notebooks and pens.
  6. Most Expensive School Supplies? – Sharpies, dry erase markers and dividers are the most expensive items. And during this Back To School season, you want to only pay $0.25-$0.50 each per item…per Sharpie marker, per Dry Erase marker or per package of Dividers. So, if you get a 4-pk of markers, plan on spending $2. They are just expensive.
  7. Shop with Strategy – These items will dip in and out of the BEST sale prices over the next month at the office supply stores, pharmacies and super centers. Knowing what you should pay before you go in, will save you a TON of money! And please…stock up on disinfectant and tissues…there’s nothing worse than starting school and spreading germs 🙂
  8. Backpacks – just hold off. If you didn’t find an inexpensive one during the Tax Free holiday, then hold off for a few weeks and wait until they clearance or offer rewards to buy them. You can pay up to 80% less by waiting…I know, that means your back to school picture will have last years backpack in it. Maybe that can be staged a few weeks later too?!

Basically, there is huge potential to save so much money on School Supplies, simply by knowing how much to spend at the right time! This is my personal favorite time of year…buying office supplies! And right now is when you need to stock up…for the entire school year! Sure hope this helps!
