Fox 13 LogoDid you catch our Savings Segment this morning on Fox?  We are honored to be a featured on Good Day Tampa Bay each Sunday to share our knowledge about coupons and how to get the most for your money!  This week was all about the Sales Tax Holiday!

Here is a little more information for you:

  1. Clothing Limitations – Any individual clothing items under $75 are exempt from Sales Tax. Clothing is basically anything worn on the body such as clothes, jackets & hats. Even including shoes, bathing suits and backpacks (even bowling shoes)! But not skates, roller blades, most sports equipment (including swim masks), watches or jewelry.
  2. School Supplies – Any individual school supply $15 and under is exempt from Sales Tax. Most all school supplies qualify. The only ones that really do not are books, computer paper, correction tape/fluid and staplers. Remember, if you have the Staples Savings Pass (costs $10) it is good through the end of August and saves shoppers an additional 15%!
  3. Computers & Accessories – NEW for 2013, any individual computer or accessory that is $750 or less is exempt from Sales Tax. This is huge! Including printers, ink, all computer related items such as mouse, keyboards, zip drives, ear buds, tablets and personal computers (just not computer paper)! On a $750 item, that saves you over $50!
  4. A Coupon Does Not Force Tax-FREE (but Store Coupons do) – If a school supply item is $16 (does not qualify for Tax Exemption) and you use a $1 Manufacturers Coupon to reduce the item to $15 (making it qualify for Tax Exemption), it is STILL TAXED. If that $1 coupon is a Store Coupon, then the item WOULD qualify for Exemption. Tax is determined solely on the ultimate selling price of the item. So a 10% store sale could make an item dip below the threshold and therefore would qualify for the exemption.
  5. How it works – The exemption is on individual items, so if you have 10 school supplies and they are each $10 (which is under the $15 threshold), your total is $100 and it is ALL tax free! So, the combined total does not affect anything. Yay!
  6. Tax Free Days do not apply if you are inside a theme park or entertainment complex. So don’t buy that cute backpack or outfit directly at Disney or Busch Gardens and think you are going to save money…you will still pay tax. So be sure and purchase it outside of the park complex.

Basically, there are two things in life you can’t get out of…taxes and death. But for three days in August (Friday 8/2 through Sunday 8/4) you can get out of one!!
