Fox 13 LogoDid you catch our Savings Segment this morning on Fox?  We are honored to be a featured on Good Day Tampa Bay each Sunday to share our knowledge about coupons and how to get the most for your money!  This week’s topic was all about how you can make a few bucks spring cleaning!

Fox 3-16-14Here is a little more information for you:

  1. CD’s, Video Games & DVDs (DeCluttr.com or Zumu.co (NOT “.com”)): Still hanging on to those pre-iPod compact discs? DeCluttr & Zumu are easy-to-use, free apps (or websites) that will buy them from you. Just download the app onto your iPhone or Android, and scan the barcode of your unwanted media (or type the code into their website, if you don’t have a smartphone) to find out how much they’ll give you. Most items will only go for a dollar or two, but they’re still dollars you didn’t have before you started decluttering. They even pay to ship it to them! Box it all up, mail it in, and your check will arrive in seven to ten business days or almost instantly via PayPal. **Note: the items must be in their plastic packaging.**
  2. Antiques and knick-knacks (Junkables.com): Junkables.com is the perfect place to offload some of those antiques or interesting odds and ends—costume jewelry, comics, clocks, glassware, etc. Items that are just collecting dust in your home. And unlike eBay, this site is completely free, so there are no listing or commission fees. Junkables makes money solely through advertising, so you keep 100% of your profits. It is an online auction, so you just need to enter descriptions and buyers pay you through a Paypal account.
  3. Electronics, SmartPhones, Computers, Tablets & Video Games (Nextworth.com): Gather up old phones, computers and gaming systems, and then enter the model numbers into the homepage of Nextworth.com to get an instant quote of how much they’re worth. (In case you’re curious, my old Android Razor Maxx phone in good condition was worth $20). Then, using a free shipping label, send them in and get a check in three to ten business days (or use PayPal to receive payment the same day). They will even wipe out your personal data before refurbishing an item. Nextworth is known for offering the best prices for used electronics, and will actually pay you more than the quoted price if it turns out that, once inspected, your item is worth more than expected. Also: If your item is not worth anything, you can still send it in to them and they’ll properly recycle it.
  4. Books (Powells.com): Sure, you can list used books on Amazon, but Powells.com is the country’s largest independent bookshop so you have the potential to make the most from them! To sell through their website, simply enter the book’s ISBN number (it’s on the copyright page, or on the back of the book) to find out how much it’s worth. *Heads Up*: most books go for under $10. Powell’s will also give you 40% more in store credit instead of cash if you opt to trade old books for new ones. As soon as Powell’s receives your book, you can get paid instantly through Paypal. PLUS, they pay for the shipping! Just make sure your books are in good condition (the website has guidelines), if your book is missing part of its cover it would be best donated to Goodwill.
  5. Clothes (Poshmark, Tradesy & ThredUp): Woman’s clothing and accessories are the hottest for selling online right now. You have two easy options:  Poshmark, Tradesy– Simply upload a photo of the item (or items) you want to sell to the free Android (Poshmark) or iPhone (Poshmark, Tradsey) app to add it to your online closet. There is NO cost to list anything, and you make 80% on each sale (you make 91% with Tradesy). Plus, the buyer pays for all the shipping, so all you have to do is box up your clothes, print out the free shipping label, and drop your parcel off at the nearest post office. But my favorite way to sell clothes, especially for Kids: ThredUp.com– Just request one of their “Clean Out Bag”s, fill it up, and send it to them (they pay the shipping). They will pay you 40% of the sales price up front, before your item even sells! And you don’t have to take any photos. Just stuff, send & collect! (another option like this for ladies clothing is Twice, and they may pay more.)

Basically, Innovations in technology and commerce have made it easier than ever to trade your unwanted goods and make a significant profit, ensuring that an efficient spring cleaning can create space within your home while affording you an unexpected financial return!
