What To Buy in November {and What Not To Buy}

When Where How

When Where How what to Buy in november

Sooner or later just about everything goes on sale. Knowing when items are at their lowest prices and buying them before you need them is a shopping technique that can save you hundreds of dollars every year on all kinds of items from groceries to gifts! This is the “When Where How” to buy things so that you get the most for your money.

Black Friday is known to be a Super Deal Day, but you don’t have to wait till the end of this month to shop! There are many deals the month of November brings that fall on the other 29 days as well!

Best Things To Buy In November:

From the Grocery Stores:

  • Candy
The beginning of November will bring clearance prices on Halloween candy. Think about your upcoming holiday baking. Does a pumpkin on the package of Hershey’s Kisses make them any less delicious to use in your Christmas Cookie recipe? We didn’t think so!!!
  • Turkey
The grocery stores will be buying in bulk to stock up for the high turkey demand this month. That enables them to pass along the lowest prices of the year to their customers!  Pick up a few extra turkeys to keep in your freezer for the months to come.  A turkey sandwich is great any month!
  • Aluminum Foil and Plastic Wrap
Homemade baked goods make amazing gifts, and grocery stores will be ready with sales on the containers to put them in.  Manufacturer’s also release high-value coupons on foil and plastic wrap now, too! It’s the perfect combination to produce stock-up prices! This stuff won’t spoil, so get enough to last several months.
  • Baking Supplies
Flour, sugar (white, brown & powdered), baking soda, corn meal, baking powder, cake/cookie/brownie mixes, frosting, chocolate chips, sprinkles, flavorings and extracts, nuts, evaporated milk and MORE are all at low prices in November and December.
  • Seasonal Foods
Canned pumpkin, cranberry sauce, Stove Top Stuffing, gravy (jar, canned & mixes), broth and canned dried onion toppings are some of the items to buy now.

In Season Produce

The cheapest produce in stores and at local farmer’s markets is always what’s in season. Here are November’s in-season fruits and veggies:

  • Apples
  • Broccoli
  • Cranberries
  • Mushrooms
  • Oranges
  • Pears
  • Pomegranates
  • Pumpkins
  • Spinach
  • Squash
  • Sweet Potatoes
  • Tangerines
  • Winter Squash

Costumes

Costumes don’t just have to be for Halloween. Get 50% off or more now. Discounted costumes make great dress-up play clothes for small kids year round.

Home Furnishings

New styles are introduced by manufacturers in February, so January will bring some furniture deals. However, for the past 3 years November prices have been even lower. You can get that guest room ready right now!

Current Season Apparel

Many online apparel stores offer their best coupon and discount deals on winter clothing in the month of November.  Keep an eye out for discounts around 50% off, yet they can climb up to 80% off!  Keep in mind that every store will be vying for your dollar and clothing stores will start early the week of Black Friday, so don’t waste time ON Black Friday shopping for clothing, instead shop earlier that week for the best sales and selection.

Cookware

Whether you’re a casual cook or an every day chef, November is the absolute best time to buy kitchen goods and appliances. Even high-end devices like KitchenAid mixers and Pyrex container sets will see extraordinary deals. Last year, we saw that several were at their lowest prices ever! Whoa! You will most likely find the best deals at Amazon, Sears, and Walmart.

Wedding Dresses & Wedding Supplies

The decrease in demand for wedding dresses in the months of November and December brings the prices down. Shop now even if your wedding is still months away!

HDTVs

Many TVs will hit their lowest prices late this month, some, even before Black Friday.  The price of almost every size category of HDTVs starts dropping in the weeks leading up to Black Friday. This year experts are expecting to see ALL brands offering rock-bottom prices, contrary to previous years when only the off brands were at the lowest price. The most value will be on the largest, 60″ size. But, as we saw last year, 32″ TV’s will most likely average less than $100!

Laptop Computers

It’s finally the month to replace that old, slow laptop! But please don’t do it until Black Friday, that will definitely bring the best prices! Last year (2014) we saw prices dip to around $150 for a 15″ computer. There WILL be even cheaper ones if you are looking for something to just access the internet and use for email.

Say Yes to the iPad mini 4, and  NO to the iPad Pro

Apple has implied that its new iPad Pro will be released in time for Black Friday. However, because it is their brand new device, I wouldn’t get my hopes up on scoring a good deal on it. We might see some stores give out gift card incentives on the new tablet, but it is not going to be anything substantial. Instead, you can expect to see deals on the recently-released iPad mini 4 or it’s larger sibling with a bigger screen, the iPad Air 2. Just so you know what to expect, last year there were a bunch of Black Friday iPad deals averaging around $100 off.

What NOT To Buy in November:

Here are a few of the items you’ll want to wait to purchase later:

  • Toys – We know you’ll be tempted with toy offers this month, but December 11-24 will bring the lowest toy prices as stores try to clear out their Christmas inventory.
If you’re shopping for a new game console, the newest versions of Xbox and Playstation will push the retail price of the previous systems way down.
  • Christmas Decorations  – If is isn’t a must-have decoration, don’t buy it yet!
  • Jewelry and Watches  – Better prices will be coming in December!
  • Calendars – Wait till next month for the lowest prices!
