Mother’s Day is always a special day for me. Every year I usually send a card to our Grandmothers thanking them for the traditions they started and the spirituality they motivated us to carry on through the years. For several weeks in our Sunday school class we studied the verse from Deuteronomy 6:4-9 (ESV) “Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God, the LORD is one.  You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might. And these words that I command you today shall be on your heart. You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise.” So how does this all relate to a Duck Tape Band-aid?

Our second and fourth children (Kevin, 10 yr and Beier, 6 yr) both had a wart on their hand. I tried everything to get rid of that yucky thing. I bought the expensive freeze stuff (yes, they have a coupon for that!) and tried the medicinal Band-aids and even some holistic products as well. I tried having them take internal supplements (I can’t remember which ones at the current moment). Nothing worked! I finally did a internet search for obscure wart remedies and found the suggestion to use Duck Tape. Really? Just standard, regular, have some already in the garage, Duck Tape. So we tried it. We cut a half-inch strip about 6 inches long and wrapped it around/over the little bugger. AND IT WORKED. After a couple of weeks it had reduced in size and eventually fell off (YUCK!).

I tell you this entire story not to only give you a great, creative, remedy for warts…but because as this was happening to our boys fingers, when we would change out the Duck Tape we took the opportunity to discuss the relation of God’s care and concern for us, (“Wow, look at how amazing God designed your body to heal!”), and the fact that Jesus is involved in every detail of our lives (“He, the God of the entire universe, is also so personal that He cares about your little finger and your concern for getting rid of it.”).  A Mother’s job is always on!

~Happy pointing them to Jesus in your every day!
