Melt, melt, melt. Be sure to add enough of the green food coloring to make it dark green.

The color will look lighter when you add the cereal.

Ingredients

  • 6 cup Rice Krispies Cereal
  • 3 tbsp Butter
  • 10.5 oz Marshmallows
  • Green Food Coloring
  • 12 Miniature Reese’s Cups
  • 1/3 cup M&M Minis
  • 12 Candy Stars
  • 3 cup Powdered Sugar
  • 3 tbsp Milk
  • 3 tbsp Corn Syrup

Instructions

  1. Line a cookie sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a medium to a large saucepan, melt the butter over low heat.
  3. Add the marshmallows and stir until completely melted.
  4. Add enough food coloring to make the mixture dark green (it will lighten when cereal is added).
  5. Remove from heat.
  6. Add the Rice Crispies cereal and stir until cereal is well coated.
  7. Allow the cereal to set for about 4 minutes.
  8. Butter your hands and form the mixture into cone shapes.
  9. Place cones onto prepared pan.
  10. Allow to cool and firm up for several hours.
  11. Mix powdered sugar, milk, and corn syrup in a bowl until smooth.
  12. Transfer the icing to a piping bag or zippered bag used to pipe onto cakes.
  13. Pipe a garland around each tree.
  14. Space M&M minis like ornaments onto the garland.
  15. Pipe a dab of icing on top of the tree to act as glue and attach the star.
  16. Place a Reese’s cup upside down on the pan. Pipe icing on it and place tree on top.
  17. Allow the Krispy Treat Christmas Trees to set before serving.

TIP: To help in forming the cone shape, use the foam that comes in a waffle cone pack to protect the cones. Cut it to make a form to help shape the trees.
