Fox 10-12-14Did you catch our Savings Segment this morning on Fox?  We are honored to be a featured on Good Day Tampa Bay each Sunday to share our knowledge about coupons and how to get the most for your money!  This week’s topic was all about the New Publix Coupon Policy!
One week from today, Sunday October 19th, will be the official day that the new Publix Coupon Policy goes into effect. We learned about the updates on October 1st, but stores were given a grace period through this coming Saturday, Oct 18th and not required to enforce the policy until the 19th.

Fox 13 LogoHere are the most important changes you need to be aware of:

  1. Dollars-Off-Total-Order Coupons: These are the coupons that are off your total order, such as the $5 off a $40 purchase Publix released last weekend. They used to allow two per household. But groups got abusive and would try to use way more than that at a time, and therefore will now be limited to one Publix and one competitor’s coupon per day, per household.  Some stores are already enforcing this rule. They have simply made it official by putting it in writing. You will now be allowed to use (1) Publix $x/$xx coupon and (1) competitor $x/$xx coupon per day, per household. To use both coupons, your total before coupons must meet the minimum requirement of each coupon added together. For example, to use both a Publix $5/$40 and a Winn Dixie $5/$50, your order total before any coupons are applied needs to be at least $90 ($40+$50).
  2. Coupons Limited to Eight: The SAME coupon is limited to 8 per day, per household. This is NOT a limit of 8 coupons period. Just 8 of the SAME coupon. Most coupons already have a limit of (4) anyway, so this as a reasonable change. The reason they had to specify this for everyone is because people were using an unreasonable amount of coupons and clearing the shelves. Notice they have added the words “per day, per household.” If you need to use more than 8 like coupons, you’ll simply have to make more than one trip to Publix on a different day. You ARE allowed to purchase MORE items, it is not a limit on the number of items you can purchase, just a limit of the number of coupons you can use. No problem!
  3. Overage Issued On A Gift Card: I know it seems foreign, but you can shop at grocery stores and if those coupons end in a negative balance, you will get the money back! Ultimately, the store is receiving the payment from the manufacturer for the coupon, and they pass along those savings to the consumer. Well, Publix has now clarified that any overage from use of coupons will be given back to you in the form of a Publix Gift Card. You’ll be going back there, right? You can treat this as a rolling reward and simply apply it to your next grocery purchase. Walmart does it with their Savings Catcher… why not? Now WE TEACH to always add something else into your cart to “absorb” that overage instead. But the official word is now that you will receive it back via gift card.
  4. Clarifying Rain Checks: This is a great change. In the past, there was confusion regarding what would be issued on a Rain Check. With this clarification, we can see that any advertised sales will be issued rain checks. Not Coupons, and not Unadvertised Sales. That totally works! The best part… now you can get rain checks on items featured on sale in the Green or Purple Flyers! That’s huge.

Basically, you are now in-the-know about the new policy! Sure hope this helps clarify! Check out the ENTIRE Updated Publix Coupon policy and our interpretation on things!

~Happy Publix Shopping!
