Hi Friend, I’m Kati

Do you wear a lot of hats each day?

Me too!

Each day I am a wife, mom of 4 children, teacher of same children (we homeschool), blogger, sister, friend, and most importantly the daughter of a loving and gracious God.

My mission at True Money Saver is to help you save time while you save money.

I fully believe that there’s nothing worse than spinning your wheels thinking you’re going to save more money, only to find that it didn’t work and your time (and effort) was fruitless.

I started writing True Money Saver in 2010 (called TrueCouponing back then) because my husband had just experienced a large pay cut and we needed to figure out ways to stretch our money.

Since I love math (I have an accounting degree and I’m a homeschool mom), figuring out how to maximize coupon usage was like a game to my brain, sharing those same deals here encouraged my friends to shop with purpose and made it actually fun to go to the grocery store.

We had to choose: Feed our kids or Pay the Mortgage

Being confronted with a scary decision of whether we should pay the mortgage OR feed our children wasn’t a fun thing to live through.

Plus we were super frustrated with ourselves that we had landed in this dire situation.

How could we have let this happen?!!

We are two college graduates with solid heads on our shoulders.

It forced us to reevaluate our future.

As a trained accountant (before I was a mom) I knew how to manage millions of dollars of fixed assets and payroll, there was no excuse for our own money to be so out of control.

We had a boatload of credit card debt, two car payments, we owed more on our home than it was worth and we had no savings.

Now, years later, we’ve paid off more than $15,000 of debt, we drive paid-for cars and our home is worth more than we owe.

That horrible pay cut back in 2009, set our world along a different path than we ever imagined.

And what we thought was going to be a road filled with destruction and despair actually resulted in strengthening our marriage, enhancing our parenting, and ultimately, growing our faith.

We wouldn’t change it for the world.

In the last 8 years of blogging, the concept of “True Couponing” has also changed into something different also.

It’s the opposite of Extreme Couponing.

Oh, don’t get me wrong, using my saving methods you will still save extreme amounts of money for your family.

But you’ll save in creative and realistic ways that are the opposite of the definition of “extreme”.

My friends call it “realistic” couponing because it is a system easy enough for me to use while I was homeschooling four different grades, cheering on my kids at sporting events, keeping up with the house (and wife responsibilities) as well as, working on this blog.

I can’t wait to see what it does for your family too.

The “True” Goal

So the “true” goal became saving money for my own family so that I could more easily bless others out of our abundance.

Yes, we had so much, it was nothing to share it with others.

In fact, we felt compelled to share. And we couldn’t not share our excess.

To sum it all up: James and I are trying to be the best stewards of what God has given our family. Couponing has been such a blessing to our finances that it became my passion to help others learn how to easily save money, too!
